Meet The Golf Pros

Learn more about the golf instructors who teach at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake.

Darin Fisher, Head PGA Professional

Darin Fisher has more than 20 years of experience as a professional golfer, and was elected to PGA membership in 2007. As the head professional at a PGA-recognized golf course, his PGA classification is A-1.

  • Five PGA National Championship appearances (Two cuts made: 2011 and 2012)
  • 2016 Iowa PGA Section Championship, winner
  • 2012 and 2014 Iowa PGA Match Play Championship, winner
  • 2012 Herman Sani Tournament, winner
  • 2002 Albia Pro-Am, winner

Also, Darin has qualified for the second stage of the U.S. Open three times (2004, 2007, and 2010), and advanced to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School in 2004. He qualified to participate in the 2017 PGA Professional National Championship after winning the 2016 Iowa PGA Professional Championship.

Darin Fisher playing golf.Darin opened The Preserve on Rathbun Lake at Honey Creek Resort in 2008, and has received the Iowa PGA Merchandiser of the Year for Resort Courses three times (2010, 2012, and 2014). 

As an instructor, he leads two successful golf clinics annually, one for ladies and one for juniors. Each clinic has 30 participants. He’s also the head coach of the Moravia High School's golf team. Darin has more than 20 years of teaching experience, and has been actively teaching as the Head Professional at Honey Creek Resort since 2008.

Darin is a graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa. He resides in Albia, Iowa, with his wife, Jeni, and their three children.

Ben Splichal, Assistant PGA Golf Professional

Ben Splichal, Assistant PGA Golf Professional at Honey Creek Resort in IowaBen Splichal brings 16 years of experience in the golf industry to The Preserve team, which he joined in January 2017. As an assistant golf professional at a PGA-recognized facility, his PGA classification is A-8.

After graduation from college at the Golf Academy of America in Phoenix, he start his first job as an assistant golf professional at Lincoln Park Golf Course in his home state of North Dakota. His experience has allowed him to pursue job opportunities at golf courses in North Dakota, Arizona, Colorado, and now Iowa.

Ben has developed a passion for the game, as well as an enthusiasm for working with and meeting new people, by working in different markets. He enjoys teaching, playing, and growing the game, and also has 10 years as a golf instructor.

Ben resides in Centerville, Iowa, with his wife, Libby. He's excited to be part of The Preserve and Honey Creek Resort!
