Darin Fisher – Teaching Philosophy
This is my opportunity to open an individual’s eyes to the game I have devoted my time and energies to for the last 10 years. I want to create and enjoyable atmosphere and employ a hands on teaching philosophy that is dedicated to teaching a very simply golf swing that emphasizes good balance and centeredness of contact, resulting in solid, consistent and predictable results.
I will utilize the basics of the golf swing, such as grip, stance, posture, and balance to promote player enjoyment and lead them in the direction of developing their own style. I welcome players of all skill levels and custom design the teaching to what they would like to get from the teachings.
No one person is alike in learning style and/or ability, so the ability of the instructor to be flexible and resilient is paramount.
Teaching Approach
By drawing upon my vast experience as a teacher and player, I first conduct a brief one on one interview with the student, evaluating the current state of their game (i.e. ability, years in the game, golf club inventory, and address any specific questions they might have). I want to know what they think their strengths and weakness are regarding their current golfing abilities and what they would like to get from the series of lessons. Furthermore, I want to know where they would like their game to go in the future (i.e. what level they would like to play at). We will determine their learning style and how we can most effectively get to where we want to go and tailor the lessons to fit that model.
After the interview, I like to have the student hit a few shots and determine a good starting point. I discuss the 9 ball flight laws and explain to them what they currently have and show them the changes we may be making to provide the consistency that will make the game more enjoyable. Once we understand what is present and where we want to go, we begin with a rundown of the fundamentals and what can be worked on before we start a swing change. I try to keep it simple and make only a few changes per lesson.
With a 5 lesson series, we have time to go slow and at the learners pace (remember, this will change with better players and be accelerated). After each lesson, I write down the key components of the lesson and give them a few drills to work these changes into memory.
