Although the temperatures are supposed to go up this weekend, today was a big day as we were able to start heating the lodge for the first time. It is amazing how much ice and snow have accumulated inside the building.

The building continues to take shape. Pella windows have been installed in the lodge and work crews are covering the door holes in preparation of heating the building. The workers on this project have suffered through an extremely cold and snowy winter, and the prospect of heating the lodge in the near future is exciting to the entire team.
The rest of the building is also taking shape, the restaurant and convention center is almost completely framed and roofed, and now the great room is also getting a roof. The great room reaches almost 45 feet in the air and is being built around a 50-foot iconic fireplace, which has already been completed.

When I was driving to the lodge today, I was greeted by more than 30 wild turkeys sitting on the 9th green of the golf course. I grabbed my camera, but most of them had run off by the time I got a shot.

A lot of people want to see the lodge as it’s constructed. With only one narrow, icy/muddy road down to the lodge and extremely heavy construction traffic, I ask, for everyone’s safety, that no one “visit” the lodge. If you would like to safely see the lodge, you can go to the boat ramp at Honey Creek State Park and simply look across the lake!

The lodge facility at Honey Creek is continuing to taking shape. Our construction site has become a flurry of action from steelworkers, roofers, framers, truck drivers, site managers, and a pair of 100-foot construction cranes. The impressive structure that will be the lodge, waterpark, convention center, and restaurant can be seen from the Rathbun Dam, or from the Boat Ramps in the existing Honey Creek State Park. I have added a new picture showing a lake view, it is very impressive! I especially would like to thank the dedicated construction workers that are fighting the cold and snow, but keeping the project on schedule – they are truly amazing people.
